Plymouth Gift

This is a quality handmade wooden Rollerball pen dressed in Iroko wood with gunmetal coloured fittings.
This is a beautiful handmade fountain pen, the comfortable shape in the hand is complemented by the wonderful natural feel and warmth of the wood.

The wood in this pen was taken from Phoenix Wharf Plymouth during the ongoing restoration in preparation for the Mayflower 400 celebrations in the city in 2020.

The Emigration Depot in Plymouth was constructed in 1847. Phoenix Wharf was used from 1847 for over 50 years to allow the loading of passengers bound for a new life in America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The Emigration depot was one of the most popular in the uK as it had some of the best facilities to house up to around one thousand emigrants while awaiting passage. At its height a record of 1800 people left in a single week.

If your ancestors left for the new worlds from Plymouth after 1847, this may well have been the last piece of England they set foot on!

Featuring a medium nib, the pen measures approximately 130mm long and 15mm at the widest part. The pen is postable, to allow the cap to be mounted on the end while in use.

The pen accepts standard rollerball type refills, it is supplied with a quality refill installed. It will be shipped in the Black card presentation case as pictured along with a certificate of authenticity giving details of the wood and featuring on the reverse side a print of a stunning painting by Gordon Frickers, the image shows the emigration centre at its height.  A fine art print is available at www.frickers.co.uk

If engraving is selected, please enter the text as you would like it in the comments section at checkout.

Please note: All engraved pens are made to order so will take around a week to complete.

All pens are handmade by me beginning with rough cut woods for the body. The body of the pen is turned on a lathe to the final shape as seen on each pen. The body is then sanded, sealed, waxed and polished to its final finish. Assembly is completed by using pre-made high quality pen components for long lasting performance.

Please note that due to colour settings on individual devices the colours in the photo's may vary from device to device.
