GWR 169 Oak

Quality handmade wooden ballpoint twist pen handmade in Oak removed during restoration of Auto-trailer GWR No 169.

GWR 169 was one of twelve new Auto-Trailers ordered by Great Western Railway in 1928 (Lot 1394 to Diagram A27). 169 was delivered in 1929, it spent a lot of its working life around the Cardiff valleys.

This is a beautiful handmade quality pen, the comfortable shape in the hand is complemented by the wonderful natural feel and warmth of the wood with a traditional wax finish. The pens are made to order so each pen will vary slightly from the image as no two pieces of wood are quite the same.

The pen accepts standard Parker type refills which are widely available. It includes a high quality refill with black ink. It will be shipped in the case pictured, along with a small certificate giving details of the wood.

Each of these pens is made to order so they will each vary slightly from the one in the photograph. Most of this Oak has lots of character and is showing signs of age with the darker areas due to the areas it was used. The photograph shows a typical piece and gives a good indication of how the piece on your pen will look.

All pens are handmade by me beginning with rough cut woods for the body. The body of the pen is turned on a lathe to the final shape as seen on each pen. The body is then sanded, sealed, waxed and polished to its final finish. Assembly is completed by using pre-made high quality pen components for long lasting performance.
