Phoenix Wharf
This is a beautiful handmade ball point pen with Copper or Antique Copper coloured fittings. The comfortable shape in the hand is complemented by the wonderful natural feel and warmth of the wood.
The pen displayed has laser engraving as pictured saying "Phoenix Wharf".
The desk stand is made using the same Iroko wood. Displaying the original surface, as it was when removed from the Wharf.
Each pen will vary slightly as this item is made to order, also the stand will vary slightly from the one pictured. The wood in the stand does contain some cracks as it is very weathered. Therefore the thickness of the stand will vary to make sure the wood is strong enough.
Please allow up to five days for dispatch as each pen is made to order.
The wood in this pen was taken from Phoenix Wharf Plymouth during the ongoing restoration in preparation for the Mayflower 400 celebrations in the city in 2020.
The Emigration Depot in Plymouth was constructed in 1847 encompassing most of the area around the original Mayflower steps. Phoenix Wharf was used from 1847 for over 50 years to allow the loading of passengers bound for a new life in America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The Emigration depot was one of the most popular in the uK as it had some of the best facilities to house up to around one thousand emigrants while awaiting passage. At its height a record of 1800 people left in a single week.
The pen accepts standard Cross refills. It will be shipped in the recyclable black card presentation case as pictured, along with a gift certificate(pictured) giving details of the wood.
All pens are handmade by me beginning with rough cut woods for the body. The body of the pen is turned on a lathe to the final shape as seen on each pen. The body is then sanded, sealed, waxed and polished to its final finish. Assembly is completed by using pre-made high quality pen components for long lasting performance.
